The ranch became known as Scout’s Rest Ranchand served as both his home and a place to raise horses for his famous Wild West Show. Cody used the ranch as a retreat from his touring schedule and as a symbol of his success and connection to the American West.

The two-story mansion sits on a small hill overlooking the surrounding land. The barn, located next to the house, originally housed livestock and equipment. Today, it has been restored and contains memorabilia from Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show, including original saddles, wagons, posters, and historic photos. Off-season tours can be arranged by appointment. Admission fees are modest, with adults typically paying $4 to $5, children aged 4–12 around $1, and kids under 3 entering for free. A Nebraska State Park Permitis required for vehicle access to the site.
